The science is promising. The demand is there. The capital is flowing.

And yet, VC-backed longevity & wellness startups keep shutting down.

Here are some of the biggest pitfalls I see 👇

1️⃣ Too much science, not enough product
Lab breakthroughs rarely turn into things consumers actually buy.

2️⃣ Overpromising outcomes
Bold claims → low trust when results don’t follow.

3️⃣ Regulation bottlenecks
Grey zones mean slow approvals and costly pivots.

4️⃣ Misaligned business models
Longevity is long-term. VC timelines aren’t.

5️⃣ Crowded but fragmented market
Supplements, wearables, diagnostics — hard to stand out.

Examples of startups that raised big but failed:
• Forward Health — once valued near $1B, now shut down.
• Modern Age — folded, assets sold off.
• Ever/Body — distressed sale.
• Ezra — acquired under pressure.

👉 Longevity as a field isn’t failing. But most startups will. Unless they can prove real impact, not just ride the hype.
